This coin features the portrait of Carolus III on one side and the denomination of 8 Reales on the other. Made of 90% silver, this historic coin played a significant role in the economic and cultural history of Latin America during the 18th century. Manuel served as the chief assayer (Ensayador Mayor) of the kingdom at the Lima Mint. Ignacio jointly served alongside Abarca, fulfilling his tenure at the mint during this period. Funding the Battle of Yorktown (August 1781), Spain provided the critical financial lifeline that made the final decisive American victory at Yorktown possible. When General George Washington\'s Continental Army ran out of money to pay troops and secure supplies the Spanish envoy, Francisco de Saavedra rapidly raised 500,000 silver pesos (largely using the type of 8 Reales coins minted in Peru and Mexico) from merchants in Havana, Cuba. This silver financed the French fleet and American troop movements that trapped Lord Cornwallis to end the Revolutionary War.
