Offered here is an authentic 1787–1788 French silver jeton issued for the City of Nantes during the mayoralty of Pierre Richard de la Pervanchère, in the final years of the Ancien Régime before the French Revolution.
These jetons were produced for official municipal use and were distributed to city administrators and officials as accounting and ceremonial pieces. They represent an interesting period in French civic and commercial history, as Nantes was one of France’s most important Atlantic port cities.
The obverse features the crowned coat of arms of Pierre Richard de la Pervanchère, supported by two detailed lions, with the dates 1787 1788 below.
The reverse displays the arms of the City of Nantes, featuring a sailing ship beneath ermine symbols, surrounded by a decorative knotted cordelière. The surrounding legend identifies the mayoralty of Richard de la Pervanchère.
This example shows strong remaining detail, especially in the lions, shield, ship, and lettering. The piece has a bright silver appearance with no toning. Please note that polishing marks are visible under magnification. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
