17thC Copper Engraving Adriane van de Venne 1627 Dog Jacob Cats Latin Dutch:
$92.00
This original 1627 copper engraving by Adriaen van de Venne illustrates a famous moral emblem from the works of Jacob Cats. The scene depicts a dog distracted by a shadow, accompanied by the Latin motto "Res Immoderata Cupido Est." Rendered with the fine detail characteristic of 17th-century Dutch master printing, the engraving is set within a circular medallion on a full leaf of period laid paper with letterpress text on the reverse. The work explores themes of desire and illusion through charming animal iconography, making it a sophisticated example of Dutch Golden Age graphic art. This leaf is well-preserved with strong ink contrast and clean margins, perfect for collectors of animalier art or early Baroque emblems
