An early account of colonial life in New York, particularly Albany and the Schuyler family, with material concerning Native American life and relations, provincial customs, and the period surrounding the French and Indian War.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a mixed/married two-volume set, not a matching edition. Volume I is the 1808 first edition; Volume II is the 1809 second edition. Both title pages are shown in the photographs.

Both volumes reach their proper terminal pages: Volume I ends at p. 322 with \"END OF THE FIRST VOLUME,\" and Volume II ends at p. 344 with \"FINIS.\" Publisher\'s advertising matter is present at the rear of Volume II.

CONDITION:

Both volumes have severely distressed bindings and are offered as restoration/reference copies.

Volume I has both boards detached, with some signatures/sections loose or separating. Volume II has a detached front board, although the text block is substantially holding. Both volumes show considerable exterior wear and evidence of old binding repairs.

Despite the poor bindings, the interior paper is generally quite well preserved for books more than 200 years old. Pages remain readable and generally supple, with scattered foxing, spotting and age toning. Previous-owner inscriptions/writing are present. A vintage newspaper clipping found laid into the books will also be included.

An interesting early American-interest work with the complete two-volume text represented by an 1808 first-edition Volume I and an 1809 second-edition Volume II.
