1860s Vermont Postal History — Barnard to Faysville — 3¢ Washington
Attractive 19th-century Vermont cover bearing clear blue Barnard, Vermont date stamp, to Mrs. Rosette Morrill, Faysville, Vermont
The cover bears a perforated 3¢ Washington stamp of the 1861 issue, with a bold black manuscript cancellation, accompanied by a clearly struck blue BARNARD, VT / FEB 8 circular date stamp.
Faysville was a recognized locality in Glastenbury, Vermont, making the destination an interesting element of this piece of Vermont postal history. A Vermont State Geologist report specifically records “Faysville, Glastonberry” among the state's named localities.
The year is not included in the circular date stamp, so no specific year is attributed to the cover. The 3¢ Washington issue and overall usage place it in the Civil War/post-Civil War period.
The combination of the rose/pink 3¢ Washington, strong black manuscript cancel and contrasting blue Barnard postmark gives the cover particularly attractive visual appeal.
