This illustrated 19th-century work tells the story of the Morning Star, a missionary sailing vessel sent to the Pacific, including its voyage around Cape Horn and visits to the Marquesas and islands of Micronesia.
The book includes period woodcut illustrations of the Morning Star and other vessels, as well as an appendix containing specimens of Micronesian languages, including versions of the Lord\'s Prayer in Gilbert Islands, Marshall Islands and Kusaiean languages.
The author\'s introductory letter is dated May 19, 1866 and discusses the original Morning Star and efforts to build a replacement vessel.
