Up for sale is a nice, RARE antique Nineteenth Century book from 1866 titled: WOMEN OF THE SOUTH by Mary Forrest! This book features Thirty-Three women authors of the South with a biographical sketch of each plus many of their works, such as poems. This book is illustrated with portraits of seven of the women. The publication date 1866 is found on the title page. It is RARE to find an intact 1866 edition of this marvelous book!

I acquired this special book from a private collection in a large library. It was gently handled and treasured done through the years.

This book is a must have for someone interested in preserving the historical record of Southern literature and women\'s studies. This book highlights women\'s intellectual contributions in a male-dominated literary sphere. It also offers a window into Southern identity and culture in the 19th century.

    CONDITION: This antique book is complete and intact, in good condition for its age. The covers are in good condition with some age-expected edge and corner wear. The inside covers are in good condition with no cracking or separation present the hinges. Both boards are tight to the binding. There is the stamp of the original owner neatly applied on the front inside cover: M. Ashley Lambert, Attorney and Counselor At Law, Raleigh, NC. The pages are in good to very good condition, the pages are crisp. Most pages are very nice. Some pages have foxing, particularly the portrait pages and the pages opposite them. The decorated spine is in good condition with some shelf wear; the gold gilt lettering is easily read.
