Beautiful and substantial two-volume Victorian set of Chambers\' celebrated Book of Days, an extensive collection of history, folklore, antiquities, customs, biographies, traditions, literature, festivals, and curiosities organized around the calendar year.

These large volumes are profusely illustrated throughout, with an extraordinary number of engravings depicting historical figures, architecture, antiquities, monuments, customs, ceremonies, artifacts, historical scenes, and many other subjects. The extensive multi-page Lists of Illustrations demonstrate the remarkable amount of artwork contained in the set.

Both volumes are attractively bound in half leather with richly marbled paper boards, raised spine bands, gilt lettering and decorative gilt tooling. The marbled page edges coordinate with the boards, giving the complete set particularly strong shelf and decorative appeal.

The bindings show expected age-related rubbing and wear, especially at the spine ends, edges, and corners. The interiors are generally remarkably clean and well preserved for books more than 150 years old. A few pages had bent/creased corners which have been carefully straightened. No detached pages noted.
