Very rare anntique illustrated edition of Charles Lever’s Harry Lorrequer, published by Porter & Coates of Philadelphia as part of their decorative “Alta Edition” series, circa 1880s. The author’s first novel (originally serialized 1837–1840), this comic Irish military picaresque follows the misadventures of a young officer through Ireland, England, and the Continent.
Beautifully bound in sage green cloth with elaborate black-printed floral and ivy decoration on front board and spine, with title panels reading “Harry Lorrequer” and “Alta Edition.” Engraved frontispiece illustration. Title page lists Porter & Coates, Philadelphia.
