Condition: Very good. Binding scuffed at edges, corners and extremities rubbed, head and foot of spine scuffed, foot of spine just beginning to split. Heavy crease to front free endpaper, with foxing following the crease line mirrored on the facing endpaper. Old bookseller\'s pencil notes on contents to second front free endpaper. Text clean and unmarked throughout. Binding square and sound.
Significance: Sherman\'s report to Secretary of War Robert T. Lincoln, with firsthand accounts by Col. Eugene A. Carr, Gen. Orlando B. Willcox and Gen. John Pope of the 1881 Cibecue Creek fight, when Apache scouts turned on Carr\'s troops during the attempted arrest of a White Mountain Apache medicine man. The report also covers Sitting Bull\'s imprisonment at Fort Randall and the founding of the Leavenworth school that became the Command and General Staff College.
