Offered here is an original 1883 first edition of The Preceptor by Elder John Nicholson, printed in Salt Lake City by the Deseret News Company. Written to help young men understand the doctrines of the Gospel and develop the ability to preach them, this compact volume is a fascinating piece of 19th-century Latter-day Saint history.
The substantially expanded second edition appeared in 1885, making this original 1883 printing especially desirable to collectors of early LDS literature, Utah history, missionary materials, and Deseret News imprints.

CONDITION:
Antiquarian copy in fair condition. The original blue covers display substantial rubbing, edge wear, discoloration, and loss of finish. Both interior hinges are cracked and fragile, with separation visible between the covers and text block. Pages show expected age toning, scattered spotting, stains, and handling wear. The book has not been professionally restored or independently collated. Please examine every photograph carefully for the most accurate representation of condition.
Despite its condition, this is an appealing and increasingly difficult-to-find example of an original 1883 LDS publication—more than 140 years old and still retaining its distinctive blue binding and gilt title.
