1885 \"OTTOMAN\" EGYPT Silver \"5 QIRSH\" Sultan ABDUL HAMID II Khedive TEWFIK PASHA 1885 \"OTTOMAN\" EGYPT Silver \"5 QIRSH\" Sultan ABDUL HAMID II Khedive TEWFIK PASHA Description This is a nice, silver, \"Five Qirsh\" from \"Ottoman\" Egypt. It was struck in Berlin, Germany in 1885 in the name of the Ottoman Sultan, Abdul Hamid II, who reigned in Turkey from 1876 until 1909.
 
But Egypt was at this time only nominally under the rule of the Sultan. It was in fact ruled by Mohamed Tewfik Pasha, the \"Khedive\" or \"Viceroy\" of Egypt. He ruled from 1879 until his death in 1892. He was succeeded by his son Abbas II.

Obverse: Tughra, with rose to right. • Denomination, 5 or ٥ Qirsh, below. • Wreath. • small: W at bottom for the engraver Emil Weigand at the Berlin mint.
 

Reverse: Regnal year 10 (١٠) at top. • The word Misr or Egypt and the accession year, 1293 (١٢٩٣) at bottom.
 
The Coin: A presentable example, it passed through some hands and earned some wear and marks. Like so many old silver coins, it has been cleaned. I grade it Very Fine, BUT, as grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
