Published in 1887 by Cassell Publishing Company in New York. Compilation of plates from previously published works with new text from Edmund Ollier. Bound in its original fine, dark brown publisher\'s cloth. Front cover and spine with gilt and black decoration. All edges gilt. Large quarto, 12\" x 9.5\". Collated and complete: unpaginated, 80 plates (including frontispiece); a few decorated initials.
CONDITION REPORT
Very Good.
Exterior and binding: Joints and hinges holding firm, boards slightly loose, tight pages, bumped corners. Colorful cloth. Front cover gilt work in very good shape. Tarnishing to gilt edges. Some rubbing to boards and edges. Spine and its gilt work sun-darkened.
Interior: Toning to page margins, and sometimes a bit deeper. Very light offsetting from plates. Some marginal finger smudges. Plate artwork in FINE condition overall. A few marginal tears and bent corners. No foxing (scarce to not find this!), writing, ex libris marks, or bookplates.
All in all, a higher-grade copy for this Dore illustrated title, in much nicer condition than normally found.
