1892 Antique Tintype Photo 2 Women Victorian Costumes Dated Identified 1/6 Plate For Sale

Original antique tintype photograph dated August 8, 1892, showing two Victorian-era women posed together in an unusually elaborate studio scene.Both women wear distinctive period clothing and hats, and one holds a handwritten sign that appears to read “Indian Mill” or “Indian Mills.” The unusual pose, clothing, sign and identified reverse make this much more interesting than a typical anonymous studio portrait.The reverse contains period handwritten inscriptions including the clearly readable date “Aug. 8, 1892.” Other writing appears to include the names “Miss Bush” and “Mrs. J. E. Snyder,” along with the phrase “The Dr. & Wife.” Please examine the photographs closely, as portions of the handwriting are difficult to decipher.Measures approximately 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches, approximately 1/6 plate size.Condition shows expected age-related wear including surface scratches, scattered abrasions and minor edge wear. Image remains quite clear with good contrast and excellent period detail. Reverse has handwritten inscriptions and an older orange inventory/price marking.A particularly appealing late-19th-century tintype because of its exact 1892 date, identified subjects, full-length composition, unusual clothing and handwritten sign.
