Antique 1892 Vanity Fair “A Big Hitter” – Andrew Ernest Stoddart Cricket Print
Offered is an antique Vanity Fair color chromolithograph titled “A Big Hitter,” published July 9, 1892.
The subject is celebrated English cricketer Andrew Ernest Stoddart, shown in traditional cricket attire holding a bat. Stoddart played for Middlesex and represented England in Test cricket during the late 19th century.
The caricature is by “STUFF” and bears the artist’s signature within the image. The lower margin carries the Vincent Brooks, Day & Son Lith. printer’s mark, along with the original caption “A big hitter.”

Condition: Displays nicely for its age. The paper exhibits expected age-related toning, scattered spotting/foxing and some discoloration. The vintage black and gilt wood frame shows considerable age-related wear, including scratches, finish loss and chipping, which can be seen in the photographs. Backing and hanging hardware also show age and wear. The print has not been removed from the frame for inspection.
