Antique 7-volume partial set of Shakspere’s Works, published in New York by D. Appleton and Company in 1896.

Included are Volumes I, V, VII, VIII, IX, XI and XII. This was originally a 12-volume set; Volumes II, III, IV, VI and X are not included.

The books feature attractive marbled paper-covered boards with dark corner and spine binding material.

Condition: These antique books show significant wear from age and use. The exterior spine coverings are missing from all seven volumes, leaving the underlying binding material exposed. Boards and corners show rubbing, scuffing, surface loss, edge wear and other age-related wear.

The original detached decorative spine covering from Volume VII is included. It features gold-tone lettering and decoration and identifies the volume and its contents. It is loose and has not been reattached.

The interior pages generally present much better than the exterior bindings, although age-related toning, spotting, stains, marks and other imperfections may be present. Please examine all photos carefully as they are an important part of the condition description.

These books are approximately 130 years old and are being sold as-is. No attempt has been made to restore or reattach the missing spine coverings.
