The scrapbook focuses heavily on early 20th-century Alaska, including mining, railroads, settlement, commerce, agriculture, transportation, Native Alaskan communities, missionary activity, and everyday life in the territory. Numerous illustrated newspaper articles are by noted travel writer Frank G. Carpenter, with subjects including the Copper River Railway, Kennicott mines, Yukon gold workings, Sitka, Fairbanks, and development of Alaska.
The front includes period clippings titled “Alaska’s Needs and Rich Promises” and imagery relating to the Government Railroad in Alaska. Interior pages contain extensive period photographs and illustrated newspaper reports, making this an interesting primary-source collection of early Alaska history and expansion.

Condition: Antique scrapbook in fragile/as-found condition. Covers and binding show substantial age-related wear, losses, chipping and deterioration.
