Small French landscape oil painting of a river in autumn, French School, signed and dated 1908 on the reverse of the panel, oil on wood panel, in a carved frame of the same period.
A painter usually signs the face of a picture when it is going out to be sold. This one wrote his name and the year on the bare wood behind, where only the owner would see them, and left the painted surface untouched.
