An uncommon early account of alleged spirit healing, published by John M. Watkins and preserved in its original blue cloth binding.
Writing under the initials E. M. S., the author describes experiences involving the medium “Miss Rose” and a purported spirit physician known as “Dr. Beale.” The narrative explores trance communication, psychic diagnosis, recovery from illness, prayer, and the possibility of intervention by the dead in the lives of the living.
The account combines personal testimony with attempts to examine and substantiate the reported phenomena. A preface by J. Arthur Hill accompanies three testimonials, comments and criticisms, and supplementary material including Dr. “Steadall’s” medical report. Chapter titles include “The Invisible Hand,” “Experiences and Experiments,” “Learning to Walk,” and “Six Months Later.”
The work was subsequently published under the title The Unseen Doctor, making this 1918 Watkins publication of additional interest as its earlier appearance under the original title.
An intriguing volume for collectors of spiritualism, mediumship, psychical research, and the history of supernatural healing.

Condition
Good overall, with wear to the binding. The blue cloth shows rubbing and shelf wear, with darkening to the spine and substantially dulled gilt lettering. Fraying and a small area of cloth loss are present at the head of the spine. Corners and board edges are worn.
Endpapers are browned, and the text shows age toning, scattered foxing, and some marginal discoloration. Pages remain generally clean and legible. Binding remains intact. Complete as examined. No dust jacket.
