True Antique UNIVERSAL SPORTSMAN CHAIR pat'd May 24, 1921, no. 1,379,128 for Field Gun & Self Propelled Vehicle. World War 1 era. FIELD GUN SELF PROPELLED VEHICLE PATENT.I believe this was patented by Eugene Schneider II, president of British Iron & Steel Institute. See info below. This seat is all aluminum and is designed to fold for ease in carrying in the field. Compact at 28" long x 12"x7" unfolded. Very sturdy. Marked: "The Universal Sportsmans Chair Pat'd U.S. and Canada May 24, 1921 No. 1379128. The Universal Mfg Co. 1030 Ramsey St, NE Minneapolis Minn."This would also be useful camping, sports, fishing, golf, etc. Condition: Very good to excellent. The only "defect" is that I cannot get the screw loose to see how far this will extend. I'd guess it will extend another 12" when fully extended.
Eugene Schneider was in America during this time and had already filed several patents concerning recoil apparatus for guns, sighting guns, loading ordance, apparatus for transporting a gun, etc. This patent does not specifically mention this seat but the date and patent number are the same, May 24, 1921, and this seat would be necessary when transporting a gun outside, out of the vehicle.
