BÉDIER, Joseph. Les Légendes Épiques: Recherches sur la formation des chansons de geste. Tome IV (Volume 4).
Paris: Librairie Ancienne Édouard Champion, 1921. Deuxième édition revue et corrigée.
Binding: Beautifully bound in contemporary period-style half-leather over striking wave-patterned marbled paper boards. Spine features five raised bands, intricate gilt-tooled floral borders, and central gold-leaf Fleur-de-lis motifs in compartments. Marbled endpapers matching the exterior boards.
Provenance: Features the highly desirable, authentic armorial bookplate (Ex Libris) of Frédéric, Comte de Janzé (1896–1933) on the front pastedown, bearing his family coat of arms and the punning motto "To Smythe and to hold".
Condition: Very Good. Strong, tight binding. Leather spine displays a rich, natural patina with minor expected shelf rubbing to the raised bands and extremities. An exceptional, aristocratically connected copy of Bédier's medieval masterwork.
