Title: Antique 1925 \"Health and Success\" School Textbook with 3 Vintage Family Portrait Photos – Spokane County, Washington Provenance
Item Overview:
Up for sale is a unique historical time capsule from the Inland Northwest. This listing includes a 1925 hardcover edition of \"Health and Success\" (Book One of The Practical Health Series) by J. Mace Andress and W.A. Evans, published by Ginn and Company. Discovered tucked safely inside the pages are three identical, pristine antique studio portrait photographs of a gentleman from the early 1900s.
Fascinating Local Provenance:
The inside front cover features the handwritten signatures of siblings Hughena Hecht and Vernon Hecht. The Hecht family is a prominent, pioneering multi-generational family from Rockford (Spokane County), Washington, where they established a 160-acre centennial homestead in 1877. Hughena Hecht later grew up to become a local schoolteacher in the region. The three identical portrait prints are highly likely of their father, Charles Henry Hecht, preserved by the family for roughly a century.
Physical Condition Details:
- The Book: Authentic vintage condition. The front cover art remains sharp and vibrant. The spine is secure with legible gold lettering. The back cover shows noticeable shelf wear and localized staining/spotting consistent with a century of storage. The title page has a light tear along the inner hinge/perforation line. (Please see photos for details).
- The Photographs: Excellent antique condition. The emulsions are clear, undamaged, and free of silvering or deep scratches. The backs of the photos are clean and completely blank.
