Original 1927 membership card for the Motion Picture Theatre Owners of Western Pennsylvania, issued to Ralph H. Shadley of the Academy Theatre in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
Shadley had acquired the Academy Theatre building in 1926 and went on to operate the theater for decades, making this an early piece from his ownership. The card records $75.00 in membership dues and is dated to expire September 1, 1927.
Housed in its original stitched leather holder, gold stamped:
“Compliments of Seltzer Music Co. Pittsburgh, Pa.”
and
“Motion Picture Theatre Owners of Western Pennsylvania, Inc.”
The Academy Theatre was a long-running Meadville venue with roots in the 19th century and later motion picture exhibition. This is a nice piece of early regional movie theater and exhibitor history.
Condition shows expected age wear including toning, creasing, staining, rubbing and wear to the leather holder and fold. Please see photos for exact condition.
