This is an authentic 1930s Leedy Model 5666 “Standard Bells” 2½-octave portable glockenspiel/orchestra bell set, made in Elkhart, Indiana. This professional model features carbonized steel bars (magnetic), each engraved with note letters, mounted in the original black fabric-covered wood case with green felt runners. The case includes its original Eagle Lock Co. lock on the front (no key), and both latches move freely. Bars retain their original Leedy hardware, and the Leedy Mfg. Co. stamp is visible on one bar. Closed, the case measures approx. 24" × 10" × 3.5"; open, approx. 24" × 10" × 1.5". Despite its age, the instrument still produces an absolutely beautiful, bright, resonant tone characteristic of early Leedy bells.
Two bars are missing: one B natural on the bottom row and one C♯ in the lower octave of the sharp/flat row. Several existing keys are loose (pictured), and the case shows typical surface wear, but the hinges and hardware remain solid. All remaining bars are original engraved Leedy steel bars with matching patina. A rare and desirable early-Leedy percussion instrument—excellent for restoration, studio use, display, or collection.
