This book is a scholarly study of Afro-Caribbean belief systems, specifically examining the history and ethnography of Voodoo in Haiti and Obeah in Jamaica.
Key Themes: Williams traces the origins of these practices back to Africa and examines their development as syncretic religions in the Caribbean.
Structure: Chapters include "African Ophiolatry" (snake worship), "The Serpent Cult at Whydah," "Voodoo in Haiti," and "Origin of Obeah".
This is a second edition, however it includes the scarce original dust jacket, which increases the value even in its condition. I have only seen two other copies that are first editions and the asking price ranges from $1250-$1500.
✨️Book is in good + condition. No internal issues. All pages present and tightly bound. Pages are tanned due to age. Cover and spine show minimal wear. Dust jacket is in acceptable to poor condition. It contains obvious signs of wear and tear from use. There is an inner dust jacket that is removable if desired.
Thanks for looking! :)
