1936 Transition Singer 221 Featherweight SERVICED
1936 early Singer 221 featherweight with controller, extra bobbins, and case pictured. This is the earlier and last mold of the body that still had the bobbin winder tension attached on the side like the original schoolbell version. Singer added an adapter to replace the schoolbell tensioner with a tensioner that sat on the top of the base to allow use of the machine to sit in the slots in the new sewing table offered. This comes with the adapter, but a schoolbell could be added. The next run of the 221 model in 1936 started the new mold with the tensioner on the top of the base and no longer available to be on the side.
Nice machine showing some wear. Serial number, AE077564, indicates built in the group starting
March 25, 1936 one of 10,000. Some scratching, smudging and scuffing of finish on base and other parts of machine due to use, Scuffs and scratches are light. Clear coat a bit patchy, but still shines. Decals worn from use. An experienced machine that we’ll help you sew.

This is not all original to this serial number. I purchased this hull with the top tension,the front table, and the transition tensioner intact. Everything else is a vintage Singer part, just not necessarily from this year. The scroll plate is the correct version. Vintage Singer bobbincase. This is more than a service would get you. Around here service, for $100 to look at machine, oils and checks tensions and sewing. No cleaning. Most soft parts are not replaced. Here is what was done on this machine.

I Will pack and cushion securely if shipped, packing and cushioning the machine inside the case and then packing and cushioning the case inside a box. I’ve seen what poor packing can do.
