Rare vintage Sam A. Formann Co. two-piece children’s Western cowboy outfit, dating approximately to the late 1940s–early 1950s.
This wonderful matching set has remained together since childhood and includes both the long-sleeve Western shirt/jacket and matching trousers. The shirt retains labels for S & Q Clothiers and Sam A. Formann Co., Buffalo, N.Y.
The detailing on this set is exceptional. Olive/brown fabric is accented with cream Western yokes and trim, elaborate green and gold embroidery, cactus motifs, black steer/longhorn heads, decorative vine embroidery at the cuffs, contrasting piping and pearl-style snap buttons. The matching trousers feature embroidered cactus and Western motifs on the front, piped belt loops and decorative rear pocket flaps.
The interior of the trousers is marked A-W2 along with handwritten vintage identification/notations, shown in photos.
This is an authentic vintage childhood outfit rather than a modern reproduction. Based on the original owner’s age and history, it dates to approximately the late 1940s or early 1950s.
CONDITION:
Remarkably well preserved for its age. The outfit has been stored for many decades and has not been dry cleaned prior to listing. There is age-related discoloration/soiling, particularly to portions of the cream fabric, along with scattered small spots and signs of storage. Embroidery remains colorful and visually striking, and the set presents beautifully overall.
It is being sold as found and uncleaned so the next owner may choose the cleaning/conservation method appropriate for a garment of this age. Please examine all photographs closely for condition and detailing.
Includes both the matching shirt/jacket and trousers shown.
A fantastic survivor for a collector of early American Western wear, cowboy clothing, rodeo memorabilia, vintage children’s clothing, theatrical wardrobe or Western Americana. Complete matching children’s Western sets of this age are increasingly difficult to find—especially with this level of embroidery and both original pieces still together.
Measurements will be provided in the listing and should be used to determine fit rather than modern sizing.
