Original Vintage 1940s Covered Wagon Restaurant Menu 114 116 South 4th Street Minneapolis Minnesota
The Covered Wagon opened in 1933 — the end of Prohibition — launched by brothers Hugo and Fritz Benson with Jim Ryan at 114 South 4th Street at Marquette. It was one of Minneapolis\'s most unusual rooms: booths built as an old-West post office, sheriff\'s office and trading store, walls hung with historic guns and pioneer relics, and steaks the town swore by. In 1956 the federal government condemned the block for a new courts building — Fritz Benson fought the $200,000 offer and a jury awarded $305,500 — and the Covered Wagon closed in 1957, its successor reborn down the street as the Little Wagon.
