The Mode Edge is a felted, integral brim edge rather than a sewn binding—a premium Stetson treatment associated with its better dress hats of the period.
Shown in three configurations: open crown, traditional center dent, and classic fedora bash with front pinch.
The interior carries the 3X Beaver Quality Stetson crest, Mode Edge designation, Stetson Fifteen sweatband stamp, and the retailer mark “Designed for Young’s New York – Kushon-Fit.”Young’s was a prominent New York men’s hat retailer with a long association with Stetson, and its proprietary “Kushon-Fit” sweatband treatment was advertised as conforming comfortably to the wearer’s head.
The original factory tag remains behind the sweatband and shows the block and size information.
Approximate period-correct measurements:
- Size: 7 1/8
- Open crown: approximately 5 7/8\"
- Brim: approximately 2 5/8\"
- Ribbon: approximately 1 3/4\"
- Creased crown: approximately 4 5/8\" at the front, depending on bash
The brown felt has a rich, warm tone and presents very well. The ribbon shows some age and light wrinkling consistent with a hat of this vintage, while the felt itself remains attractive and shapeable. The liner, sweatband, wind trolley, and original trim are all present.
A particularly nice example of the Stetson Fifteen / 3X Beaver Quality era, with excellent early-1950s proportions and the added interest of the Mode Edge and Young’s New York provenance.
