Up for sale is a beautiful, highly collectible early-production 1958 Leica M2 chrome rangefinder body (Serial No. 940015). This is the sought-after "button rewind" variant without a self-timer, offering a clean, minimalist aesthetic favored by street and documentary photographers.The standout feature of this camera is its mechanical condition: It received a full Clean, Lube, and Adjust (CLA) service by legendary Leica specialist Youxin Ye (YYE) in April 2024.Because it was serviced by YYE, you can bypass the usual risks of buying vintage gear. This camera is completely dialed in, light-tight, and ready to shoot the day it arrives.Mechanical & Functional Condition:
• Shutter: Fully serviced. All shutter speeds sound accurate, crisp, and snappy to the ear-from 1 second down to 1/1000th. Shutter curtains are clean, smooth, and free of pinholes or wrinkles.
• Viewfinder / Rangefinder: Exceptionally bright and clear. The rangefinder patch is sharp with excellent contrast, and the 35mm, 50mm, and 90mm framelines select smoothly and accurately. Vertical and horizontal alignment are perfect.
• Winding & Controls: The single-stroke film advance is incredibly smooth. The frame counter resets properly, and the rewind button operates flawlessly.Cosmetic Condition:
• Frameline Illumination Window: Please note that the frosted glass illumination window on the front has a visible crack (see close-up photo). This is purely cosmetic—the glass is stable, ambient light still passes through perfectly, and the frame lines inside the viewfinder remain brightly and fully illuminated.
• Body & Chrome: Aside from the glass flaw, the camera body is in great shape for its age. Please inspect the high-resolution photos closely to assess cosmetic condition. The top and bottom chrome plates show beautiful, honest vintage character with only minor superficial rub marks from normal handling—outstanding shape for a 65+ year-old mechanical camera. There are a few scratches on the top front (see pictures). No major dents or deep gashes - small indentation on left side of camera near advance lever - see pictures
• The covering (done by YYE) is complete and intact, but there are two bubbles you can see in the photos.What's Included:
