The 1966 Volkswagen 1300 US Spec is a classic car with a beige exterior and black interior, featuring a 1.5L engine with approximately 130,000 miles on the odometer - true reading is unknown. The vehicle has a 4 speed manual transmission vehicle has 2 front seats and a bench seat in the back, 2 doors, runs on gas - better if you add a lead additive to each tank - also avoid ehtanol. This is a true enthusiast car.
You will notice the first 7 pictures were taken when I purchased this car in late 2016, all of the rest were taken this week. I got sick shortly after I purchased the car and was not able to do any restoration for about a year. Although I did some minor work to the car along the way, in 2018 I had the engine rebuilt, I only ran the engine once after it came back from the shop. In 2020, I began tearing it down, I removed the interior, and had some welding done to replace part of the pan - which can be seen in the pictures. What can also be seen is the rust in the usual spots, under the running boards. I discovered at that time that the rocker panels had previously been replaced. I also found that the left rear window seal had been leaking for some time and had caused quite a bit of rust at the bottom, some of which has been repaired, but it still needs some work.
This project requires previous experience to restore the frame properly, but it's not a lot of work. the body is in really good shape as is most of the pan. The primary trouble spots are the rocker panels and along the rear firewall. Although I have had the car for 10 years I've only driven it three times.
I have some new parts for it, including new rubber seals, window trim, various other parts - I can provide a list. As mentioned the engine is newly rebuilt, the clutch, and bearing have been replaced. I put new tar boards in the engine compartment, new engine compartment seal.
