This is a real deal original Muncie M-21 close ratio 4 speed transmission. This transmission came out the estate of a life long hot rodder. The assembly code is P9R09 which decodes as October 9th, 1968 for use in the 1969 model year. The partial VIN is 19K327600 which is stamped on the top of the case above the shift cover and will not show when installed. This would be an excellent replacement for a car missing its original transmission. I don't see any breaks or repairs to this transmission. This transmission has a main case casting number of 3925660 as shown. The 3925660 case was used on Muncie transmissions from 1968-1969. The tailhousing is casting number 3857584. The side cover is casting number 3950306. The front bearing retainer is casting number 3915020. The input shaft has one groove in it which I believe signifies this is a M21 close ratio transmission.This transmission is in good unrestored condition as shown. It looks to be in its original bare aluminum finish with some scattered orange paint residue. I see no breaks, modifications, or repairs to this transmission other than one upper mounting rear that has been nicely welded and used sucessfully since the repair was done. The other 3 mounting ears are in great shape with no cracks or welds. All threads are in good shape with no helicoils or thread inserts. This is simply an awesome factory high performance transmission that has survived the test of time.
I removed the side cover from the transmission to inspect the internals. The internals look nice with no chipped teeth or major corrosion/pitting as shown. I have never personally used this transmission and I recommend rebuilding it before use.This is a very nice Muncie M21 close ratio 4 speed transmission that has never been abused or blown up.
