Offered here is an extraordinary original 1979 archive documenting a disciplinary action involving San Francisco Giants catcher Mike Sadek. The collection includes the original National League Western Union telegram, the corresponding Major League Baseball Players Association letter regarding the fine and appeal process, and both original mailing envelopes.
The June 5, 1979 Western Union telegram from National League President Chub Feeney notifies Sadek that he was fined $100 following the May 31, 1979 Los Angeles-San Francisco game for throwing equipment and was ejected from the same game for arguing. The telegram also warns that future offenses could result in additional disciplinary action.
Also included is the original June 13, 1979 MLBPA letter from Associate Counsel Peter Rose advising Sadek of his right to appeal the fine and stating that a copy of the umpire\'s report would be forwarded upon receipt.
