1996 Specialized Stumpjumper M2 Comp, 15.5\" M2 Metal Matrix frame, built with high-quality period components and preserved in very good original-period condition.
This bike was built and ridden in the 1990s, then stored indoors for many years. It has recently been cleaned and detailed and still presents very well, with original-period graphics, components and normal cosmetic evidence of use rather than a modern restoration.
The heart of the bike is Specialized\'s lightweight M2 Metal Matrix Composite frame. Factory size is 15.5\". Actual measurements are approximately 17\" center of bottom bracket to top of seat tube and 21.5\" top tube.
It is equipped with a strong mix of quality period components, including Shimano Deore XT M739 front and rear derailleurs, Shimano Deore XT shifters, a RockShox Judy XC suspension fork, Avid 1D Single Digit V-brakes with Avid SD-1.9L Speed Dial brake levers, and Mavic 221 26\" rims. The front wheel is radial-laced, an unusual and distinctive setup for a mountain bike of this era.
Other components include a Ritchey ForceLite 6061-T6 handlebar, Specialized alloy stem, Specialized forged triple crank with 175 mm arms, Tange Japan headset, upgraded sealed bottom bracket, and Tioga SureFoot 3 pedals.
The bike retains a very cohesive mid-1990s build and has not been modernized with contemporary components. It shows ordinary scratches and cosmetic wear consistent with age and use, but the frame, decals and major components remain attractive and intact.
Because the bike was stored for an extended period, I recommend the usual inspection/service before aggressive trail use, particularly tires, cables, brake pads and suspension. It is being sold as a vintage bicycle in its current configuration.
Original owner/build history available. The bike was assembled and upgraded while the owner was working in a bicycle shop in the 1990s.
