The back also recounts him becoming the first rookie to win Finals MVP, with 42 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in Game 6 of the 1980 Finals.
Appearance detail: Raw, not in a holder. All four corners are sharp with no whitening and the edges are clean. The foil surface is clean at 4x with no scratches or print lines, and there is no crease. The swatch sits flush in its window: solid purple knit with white perforation holes, single colour with no stripe, seam, number or logo. Full-bleed front, so border centring cannot be measured.
Worth knowing: Serial 96/99 verified -- printed on the BACK, centre (front edges checked, nothing there). Card number 11 appears on the back only. The unqualified Panini guarantee with no not-from-a-specific-game disclaimer is stronger relic language than most cards of this era and is worth pointing out to buyers.
Player career: Johnson won five NBA championships with the Lakers, three league MVP awards and three Finals MVPs, and took gold with the 1992 Dream Team. He averaged 19.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 11.2 assists a game -- the highest assist average in NBA history -- and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002. He is now part-owner of the Dodgers, LAFC, the Sparks and the Washington Commanders.
