The Garrett AT Pro is so good, that it hurt the sales numbers
of many detector models priced both below and above the price of the AT Pro.
As a result many companies have tried hard to compete in this affordable
all terrain detector market.
Honestly, they have thrown every bell-and-whistle onto these
new machines targeting the Garrett AT, and in every case, in some way or another
they keep missing the mark!
This unit was sold new, in my detector store. It has not seen any underwater use.
This is from the early part, of year two, of the AT-Pro production.
Only two things have changed since the early units and I was indirectly involved
in the first change.
A catalog (mail-order) buyer from north of my store in
Grand Rapids, MI, started trying to use his new AT-Pro without any dealer
guidance. Not knowing any better, he perceived a problem.
As with Amazon packages his came with a card saying
\"Problems? Do not return to the place of purchase\"
Call our helpline at 800-Bla-Bla!
So he is soon talking to Garrett explaining with an angry voice his issue.
In short order, they decide the buyer just needed some guidance, so they
ask him, \"How far are you from our dealer in Plainwell?\"
Garrett called to tell me that he was coming.
I greeted him, and checked everything over very carefully and did
a quick system reboot. I checked connections, ground cancel
and the Standard and Pro programs.
I handed him the detector back telling him it works perfect!
He wasn\'t happy! He snatched it from me, and quickly peaked up the sensitivity
and held the coil at waist high and shook the detector as hard and fast as he could!
It responded with a bing-a-ding-bing-a-ding snap-crackle-pop!
\"Now what do you think? It isn\'t suppose to do that?\"
I replied, \"YOU are not suppose to do that!\"
I took my display unit off the rack and it did the same thing!
He stormed off, and when he got home, he got busy bad-mouthing Garrett
and their stupid dealer! He claimed \"They don\'t care anything about their customers!\"
That is the horrible poison of the Internet! And these false accusation spread
like wild fire! It was on the Internet . . . It must be true!
In a case like this, Garrett felt they must somehow respond in a way
showing that are addressing the non-issue.
What they did was add plastic cam locks, to both the two connections between
the upper stem and lower stem . . . and that calmed the sea!
Not only was it unnecessary, but it gave the user the false belief they
could run their sensitivity higher than they should, thereby causing ground
reflection! Too much sensitivity masks gold chains and small jewelry!
The cam-locks also become a sand trap! If left unattended the cam lock becomes
a grinder digging through the aluminum stem!
After a while, cam-locks left uncleaned, will lock the stem together to the
point where it won\'t come apart! Not even hooked between two wreckers!
This one was built before insanity ruled the day!
