Offeredhere is a dandy group of twenty-two different pocket-size boxes of antique woodenstick matches from my personal collection of many years. Fourteen of these are brands made in the U.S.- but I’ve always been somewhat amazed that considering the vast number ofmatch companies within the United States, many foreign-made matches wereimported! I have included eight foreign-madebrands that include: Carnation (Japan),The Pipe (Czechoslovakia-1940’s), Our Buddies (Military-themed made in Finland)and five very interesting ‘Made In Sweden’ brands! Some of the brands are trulyscarce/hard-to-find, but I guarantee that this collection contains no cheapcopies! I’ve only come across an “OurBuddies” label, and it had a $25.00 asking price! The Copperhead box was obviously manufacturedfor the KODAK company as it bears an additional bottom label stating thecontents are “KODAK APPROVED MATCHES”!The Lustre Saftey Matches is another earlier scarcity - and one that you’renot likely to find elsewhere!
Ihave provided quality scanned photos of both sides of all match boxes. For size comparison - the box of Doric matchesmeasures approximately 2-1/2”4-7/8” …. The Globe box 2-5/16”x2-15/16”, and theLustre box 1-7/16”x2-5/16”x11/16”. Noneof the boxes have ever been used/struck, and the original matches remaininside. I just noticed that it doesappear that a couple matches were struck on the Signal Light box. However, all others are in Fine++ tovirtually near-mint-as-made condition. Iundoubtedly have more invested in the group than my asking price - but due toage/health issues - it’s time to find them new homes. My 14-year younger brother is a definitenon-collector … so help me save ‘em from the trash can!
Iadvise you to check prices for similar boxes - but keep in mind that mineare all full boxes - not just a label or empty boxing showing a lot of use.
