Enjoy fresh, locally grown chestnuts from a young, thriving chestnut grove in Southern Illinois. The chestnuts are gathered by hand daily by the family’s children throughout the harvest season, helping ensure that you receive fresh nuts rather than chestnuts that have been sitting in storage for an extended period.
Although the trees are still young, they are already producing excellent-tasting chestnuts with great flavor and quality.
ABOUT THE TREES
The grove consists of American / Chinese hybrid chestnut trees selected for their ability to grow well in our area and their resistance to common chestnut blights and diseases.
The trees are young but healthy and productive, and they are already producing an impressive crop of flavorful chestnuts.
Because these are naturally grown chestnuts, individual nuts will vary somewhat in shape, color, and appearance.

- We inspect and sort the chestnuts before they are packed. We do not intentionally send obviously moldy, severely damaged, dried-out, or unusable nuts.

Chestnuts are a favorite food for wildlife, and deer are especially attracted to them when they begin falling from the trees.
FOR PLANTING
Chestnuts are living seeds, and their ability to germinate can be affected by storage conditions, temperature, moisture, handling, and planting methods.
Germination is not guaranteed.
If you plan to plant your chestnuts, we recommend researching proper chestnut storage, handling, and cold-stratification requirements for your particular climate. For the best results, plant them promptly or store them properly until planting.
STORAGE
For best freshness, refrigerate chestnuts in a paper bag or perforated bag that allows some airflow.
Chestnuts are different from most nuts because they contain a significant amount of moisture. They can also become sweeter after harvest as some of their starches naturally convert to sugars.
Avoid storing fresh chestnuts in a completely sealed plastic bag, as trapped moisture can encourage mold.
FRESHNESS & SHIPPING
Chestnuts are harvested throughout the fall as the nuts naturally drop from the trees.
Orders are packed as close to shipping as reasonably possible so you receive fresh 2026-harvest chestnuts, rather than old warehouse stock.
Because this is a seasonal agricultural product, availability and harvest quantities will vary throughout the season.

These are freshly harvested, naturally grown chestnuts—not factory-produced or perfectly uniform commercial nuts.
You may notice differences appearance
This is completely normal for fresh chestnuts.
