Fine. The volume presents beautifully, with clean blue genuine leather, sharp corners, bright gilt decoration, and a sound binding. There is a small scratch to the gilt at the top edge of the text block, visible in the photos. Otherwise pristine, clean and unmarked throughout.

A particularly substantial Easton Press production, presenting all four volumes of The Count of Monte Cristo complete in a single volume. Bound in genuine leather with elaborate gilt decoration, raised spine bands, all edges gilt, moiré endpapers, and a satin ribbon marker. This edition was published by advance reservation exclusively for subscribers to Easton Press’s 100 Greatest Books Ever Written collection. Its special contents include André Maurois’s introduction, numerous illustrations by Lynd Ward, a frontispiece by Richard Sparks, and cover design by Jonathan Talbot. The volume runs 1,248 pages.

Originally serialized in France beginning in 1844, Dumas’s sprawling novel follows Edmond Dantès from wrongful imprisonment through escape, reinvention, and an extraordinarily elaborate campaign of revenge. This Easton Press edition is especially notable for retaining Lynd Ward’s dramatic illustrations, originally associated with the 1941 illustrated edition, while gathering the enormous novel into one handsome leather-bound volume. It is not a first edition of the novel; it is the 2003 Easton Press Collector’s Edition from the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written series.
