Adam Friedrich Grimm Violin 1 Piece Top 2 Piece Back Late 1700s to Early 1800s Description Our SKU: 11341976 Item Brand: Adam Friedrich Grimm Item MPN: Nice Antique German Violin with a Adam Friedrich Grimm label inside the violin body from the late 1700s to mid-1800s for your collection or to play again. A nice older violin here. This violin has a label in it that says "Adam Friedrich Grimm" (done as Adam Friedrich Grim with a line above the "m" in Grim) and notes Klingenthal in the second line of the older paper label. This violin maker was from the Klingental region of Germany, near the border by Saxony & Bohemia, in the late 1700s to mid-1800s. The violin has a one piece belly and two piece back. Exceptional fine graining to the wood on the belly. Beautiful tiger maple striping on the back of the violin. Nice darkish brown stain on the entire violin. Some finish loss, and scratching to the wood from use. A number of hairlines on the belly of the violin that will need repair attention, see pics. Some appear to be older repairs. Most notable are the ones running from the top of the violin to the f hole and from the bottom of the violin to the bottom of the f holes. Other hairlines there as well. A hairline crack emanating from just inside the lower beak and going about 3" from the edge. A little wood warpage around one of the f hole scrolls. Nice inlaid purfling (all intact on both sides), f hole, and scroll work. The corner blocks are in place. The beaks look good. The soundboard and back are tightly glued to the sides other than the one issued noted already, no other separations to report. There appears to have been a repair to the side of the violin down to the left and right of the end pin. Another old repair up on right side where neck comes into the body. A crack on the top side of the violin by the neck.The sound post is up inside the violin body. No guarantee it will be after shipping. The back's finish has a translucent look to it. The nut, chin rest, bridge, strings and tailpiece are in place. Strings are older and expect they will need replacing.4 nice matching tuning pegs. They appear to be made of ebony. Tuner box and scroll of the violin are still intact. The violin is 23-1/8" long, by 8" across at the lower bout, and 6.5" across at the upper bout. The violin body is 14-1/8" long. This violin does comes in an older violin case that is in pretty rough shape on the inside and out. Green felt type interior. Latches do not work and the key for the lock on the case is not with it.
