Antique portrait print depicting Hon Alexander Leslie (1731-1794), British Army Lieutenant-General and Colonel of the 9th (East Norfolk) Regiment of Foot, after John Kay's 1789 Edinburgh portrait etching. Half-length profile portrait showing Leslie in uniform and cocked hat. Later bookplate or facsimile issue of the composition documented in Kay's Portraits; British Museum object 1868,0808.1746 and National Galleries of Scotland PG 2840 catalog the original 1789 Kay etching. This sheet has a large ornamental rectangular decorative border and modernized caption lettering consistent with a later nineteenth-century reissue.
Leslie served throughout the American Revolutionary War, commanding British troops at Harlem Heights and engaging at Long Island, White Plains, Princeton, Monmouth, Charleston, and Guilford Court House. After Cornwallis's surrender at Yorktown he commanded British forces in the southern theater and supervised the 1782 evacuations of Savannah and Charleston. He became colonel of the 9th Foot in 1788. The subject carries genuine Revolutionary War interest.

Condition: Good to fair antique. The portrait and full decorative border are intact. The sheet shows overall toning, two circular brown stains near the upper border, scattered light foxing and small marks, faint surface grime, mild waviness, and a gray smudge or abrasion in the lower-right field.
