This Extremely Rare Antique by Alfred J. Frueh original caricature of William Collier was part of the Pierce Studio Exhibition, held from November 1912 to April 1913. Most of Frueh’s drawings in this exhibition were rendered on cream-colored paper mounted on illustration board. His caricature of Collier, later revisited for hisStage Folkportfolio published in 1922, captured the actor’s signature comedic expression and stage presence, reflecting his role as one of the prominent figures in early 20th-century American theater. Due to the age of these original pieces, the paper on which they were created is very sensitive and shows evident signs of aging, including discoloration and fragility, adding to the historical value and delicate nature of the work.
