The great structure the 18th century knew as the Temple of Peace, shown with its flanking statuary. Captioned "Temple de la Paix" above and "Templum Pacis" below (plate p.297.IX). One wall of this complex once carried the Forma Urbis, an enormous marble map of ancient Rome whose surviving fragments still help scholars reconstruct the city. This plate comes from the Antiquites Romaines, a set of Roman views associated in this collection with the Comte de Bonneval and published by Jean Neaulme, c.1750. It is a copperplate engraving printed on laid paper.
