Antique 1855 Boston Theatre Playbill Broadside - Mademoiselle Rachel Felix American TourItem Overview:Up for sale is a stunning, beautifully framed original antique theatrical broadside / playbill from the Boston Theatre, dating back to October 1855. This rare piece of ephemera captures a momentous chapter in theater history: the legendary American tour of the historic French tragic actress, Mademoiselle Rachel (Élisa Rachel Félix, 1821–1858)This historic playbill advertises a grueling one-week engagement featuring six different nightly performances of her most famous classical and romantic repertoire, including Horaces, Phedre, Angelo, Andromaque, Marie Stuart, and Adrienne Lecouvreur.Historical Significance:
Mlle Rachel's 1855 tour of the United States was highly anticipated but short-lived. While performing later on the tour in Philadelphia, her health completely broke down. She was forced to cut her American engagement short, retiring to Europe where she passed away just three years later at the age of 36. This broadside stands as a scarce surviving artifact from her historic, final tragic tour.Condition Report:
The broadside shows a historic, uniform aged patina consistent with paper ephemera from the mid-19th century. Minor expected handling creases and very slight chipping at the edges are visible, adding to its authentic character. It has been preserved behind glass and appears structurally sound. (Note to buyer: Please review the close-up images to inspect paper condition details).Shipping & Handling:The item will be securely packed with professional conservation materials and bubble wrapped extensively to guarantee safe transit of the framed glass structure. Tracking and insurance will be included.
