This is a classic Victorian-era clipping scrapbook created by repurposing a thick, leather-bound circa 1873–1875 government statistical volume (focusing on "Wealth, Taxation, and Public Indebtedness").Instead of a blank album, the original creator glued a wonderful variety of 1870s cultural ephemera directly over the text and data tables.Fascinating Content Includes:A beautifully preserved full-page wood engraving portrait of New York Governor John A. Dix (who served 1873–1874).Early illustrated humor panels and comic strips, including a complete 6-panel illustrated story titled "The New Umbrella – A Romance in Six Tableaux."Victorian poetry sections (including "Summer Flowers"), scenic woodcuts, and narrative newspaper clippings.Intriguing historical data tables visible beneath and around the borders of the clippings.
Condition Notes:This item is over 150 years old and shows heavy, honest antiquarian wear. The exterior leather and marbled paper boards show significant surface rubbing and edge wear. The spine edge has vintage tape reinforcing the binding. Internally, the pages are aged and delicate at the edges.
