Antique American Waltham Watch Co. 18-size mechanical pocket watch, circa 1896–1897, featuring a highly decorative O’Hara fancy multicolor enamel dial and a substantial C.W.C. Co. .925 fine silver hunter case.
MOVEMENT
American Waltham Watch Co. mechanical hand-winding movement.
Movement serial number: 7,968,473.
The movement is beautifully damaskeened and marked “American Waltham Watch Co.” and “Safety Pinion.”
Based on the Waltham movement serial number, the watch dates to approximately 1896–1897.
DIAL
Exceptional O’Hara fancy enamel dial with ornate lavender/purple decoration, Arabic numerals, gold-tone decorative details, fancy gold-tone hands, applied decorative hour/minute accents, and subsidiary seconds.
The dial presents extremely well overall and is one of the most visually striking features of this watch.
Please note that there are visible hairline cracks in the dial in approximately the 3–4 o’clock area. Please inspect the close-up photographs carefully.
The dial has NOT been removed from the movement, and the reverse side has not been inspected.
CASE
Large full hunter-style silver case with front cover, rear cover and inner dust cover/cuvette.
The inner case is clearly marked:
C.W.C. CO.TRADE MARKSILVER925/1000 FINE179
The C.W.C. Co. crescent-and-star trademark is associated with the Crescent Watch Case Company.
The exterior of the case shows age-related wear, scratches, tarnish, rubbing and loss of definition to the original decoration/engraving. Please use the photographs as the primary reference for cosmetic condition.

MECHANICAL CONDITION — PLEASE READ
The watch is being sold AS-IS FOR REPAIR / RESTORATION.
The winding crown winds the movement.
However, the balance wheel does not begin running normally on its own. With a slight movement or gentle rocking of the watch, the balance may begin oscillating and the movement may temporarily run. When the watch is turned into another/inverted position, the balance stops.
This behavior may indicate an issue involving the balance staff/pivots or another part of the escapement, but no professional diagnosis has been performed.
No attempt has been made to repair, service, clean or adjust the movement.
The watch should therefore be considered NON-RUNNING / NOT FULLY FUNCTIONAL and in need of professional service or restoration.
No guarantee is made regarding timekeeping, functionality, completeness of the movement, or the exact repairs required.
