18 of 25 volumes. Published in 1898 by Charles Scribner\'s Sons, New York. Red cloth boards with gilt border and text on front cover and decorative gilt binding. Top edge gilt; fore edge and bottom edge are deckled. Rubbing to edges; some spines are faded. A few small stains on covers. Tissue protected frontispieces. Volume XIX has a foldout map. Some stains, toning, light wave to pages. Bindings are sound (unless noted); pages are otherwise crisp and clean. Volumes II, XVII and XIX have a cracked front hinge. Volume X has broken front and rear hinges.
