Up for sale is a scarce and highly collectible authentic 18th-century French regional folk art standing table crucifix, measuring approximately 8 inches tall. This specific size was engineered as a private domestic devotional object for a home altar (oratoire) or bedside prayer niche during the 1700s.The crucifix highlights unmistakable 18th-century French styling, featuring a delicate trefoil (trèfle) silhouette at the tips of the crossbars. The crucifix column transitions smoothly into a classic tiered triangular tripod base resting on three short, flared feet—a hallmark of French provincial metal casting. Directly below the corpus of Christ is a finely cast skull and crossbones symbol (Memento Mori), representing the skull of Adam at Golgotha and symbolizing the triumph over death.Condition:
The piece is in exceptional antique condition, showcasing an untouched, authentic deep honey-gold patina. Deep recesses across the corpus and the tripod base feature genuine centuries-old tarnish and light verdigris.
