Antique hardcover edition of The Poetical Works of Alfred, Lord
Tennyson, published by Thomas Y. Crowell Company, New York, copyright
1897 and 1900. Includes biographical and critical introduction by
Eugene Parsons. A beautifully aged piece of literary history, with
period ink and pencil ownership inscriptions on the front endpaper
reading "Jane Imlay" and "Peta Imlay" — a small window into the
book's past life. This copy has real age and character: heavy wear and a fibrous,
moss-like surface growth on the leather covers (consistent with
mold/mildew from past moisture exposure), along with a failing spine
showing exposed binding fabric. The interior text block and title
pages remain legible and intact, with typical foxing/tanning for a
book of this age but no visible mold on the paper itself. This is a striking display piece or project book for anyone drawn to
atmospheric, well-worn antiques — think moody bookshelf styling,
photography props, or a restoration project — rather than a
shelf-ready collector's copy.
