1904 Antique Folding Map: "Straits Settlements and Malay States"
Bonus Included: Complete 1905 First Edition Biography The Life of General Sir Andrew Clarke (Acceptable/Reading Condition)
Up for sale is an authentic, original 1904 fold-out colonial map detailing the Straits Settlements and Malay States (modern-day Malaysia and Singapore). This highly detailed map features early regional borders, towns, and geographical markers from the height of the British colonial era.
Map Condition Details:
Authenticity: 100% original historical print, not a modern reproduction.
Paper/Ink: The colors remain distinct and legible with standard age-related toning.
Structure: The map has been detached from its original placement at the back of the included biography volume. The long, blank paper binding strip is still attached to the top margin.
Wear: Standard fold lines and creases from age. There is minor tearing/splitting along the crease lines where the map meets the blank binding extension, but the core map area remains intact.
Included Bonus Book Details:
The map originally served as the primary fold-out illustration for the included first edition copy of The Life of General Sir Andrew Clarke (1905, London, John Murray). Sir Andrew Clarke famously served as Governor of the Straits Settlements.
Book Condition: Poor to Acceptable reading copy. The exterior red cloth boards show shelf wear, staining, and fraying at the spine. The binding is shaken with loose pages that need rebinding. One interior page contains children's ink writing ("It was inside a book...").
This book is being included strictly as-is as a companion piece or restoration candidate alongside the map.
Please review all photos carefully to evaluate the condition details. The item will be packed with care using protective, rigid materials to prevent bending or moisture damage during transit.
